MIDWEEK LENTEN WORSHIP Lent is a sacred time, an opportunity to contemplate our relationship with God as we make sacrifices of our time and devotion to those disciplines that strengthen our discipleship -- Bible reading, prayer, worship, service, giving and spiritual friendships. Commit to attending these midweek worship services for your own spiritual growth. All services are in the Zion Nave and except as otherwise noted, are at 7:30 p.m. March 10 Taize & Service of Healing March 17 Evening Prayer March 24 Compline April 1 Maundy Thursday - Noon and 7:30 p.m. April 2 Good Friday Financial Peace University Financial Peace University is a video-based program with a Christian emphasis. You will learn how to beat debt, build wealth, and be good stewards of all God has first given us. At the preview, you will have an opportunity to sign up to take this class and to order materials using the church discount. The 13 classes will begin on Tuesday, January 26, at 7 pm, and will run every Tuesday through April 27. More than 16,000 churches are offering this program and the need is escalating with the economic times in which we live. This program is being offered as an outreach ministry sponsored by Zion Lutheran Church and led by a volunteer-neither the Church nor the leader charges a fee. You can find additional information and register at http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu. St. Afterschool St. Afterschool, for children in kindergarten through grade 5, is offered each Thursday throughout the school year from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Because we are expanding this ministry to last throughout the school year, more helping hands are needed so that our volunteers won't "burn out." Do you enjoy reading stories to kids? We could use your help for one or two Thursdays a month. Do you have a special skill, talent or hobby that you could share with kids some Thursday for a special program? Would you be willing to help for an hour in our computer lab? Or help set up or serve dinner? The needs are endless and the possibilities are only as limited as your imagination. Come and help make a difference in the life of a child and share a bit of your time for this outreach ministry to the families of Zion and our community. Bhutanese Refugees Find a Place to Call Home Seven Bhutanese and Iraqi refugee families have now been resettled in Penn Hills through the efforts of the Jewish Family and Childrens Services refugee program. Since arriving here a few months ago, several members of the families have been placed in jobs with a Northside industrial laundry company and all are enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes offered by the Pittsburgh Literacy Council and hosted at Zion. Children of the families are attending Penn Hills schools. >>>>Read More Marks of Discipleship |
